Although Animals (Pet or livestock) are still considered property under Canadian Law, they do have rights. As the Humans who care for them, you have rights and responsibilities under the law to ensure that they are well cared for and treated humanely.
In Ontario, currently there is Breed-Specific-Legislation regarding certain breeds of dogs which they consider to be “dangerous” and we are not allowed to own said breed in Ontario. Although this legislation is currently being fought by many animal rights advocate groups, there are still limitations on the legislation. If you believe your dog has been incorrectly labelled and removed by local animal services departments due to this issue, you have the right to go to a hearing to defend for your rights to keep your furry family member.
